4 DAY – KAKADU, KATHERINE AND LITCHFIELD PRIVATE CAMPING TOURS

Well then, this private, 4-day 4wd camping tour, could be what you are looking for. You can explore Litchfield, Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) and World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park in comfort, on this private 4-day tour.

You will be accompanied by a local accredited tour guide, who is experienced, passionate and eager to share his insights into the flora, fauna, history and culture of the areas you traverse; you’ll enjoy the best the Top End has to offer: amazing scenery, incredible walks, secluded swimming spots and unique wildlife.

• Pick up Darwin CBD 6.30am.
• Travelling towards Kakadu, our first stop is Corroboree Billabong on the Mary River, for a wildlife boat cruise. While cruising the wetlands you get the chance to see saltwater crocodiles and an – amazing variety of birdlife in their natural habitats, all while learning about the important ecosystem they share.
• Off to Ubirr, we wander through ancient sandstone outcrops, viewing paintings depicting traditional Aboriginal people’s way of life over countless generations.
• Climb to the top of Ubirr, where you get amazing panoramic views of the massive floodplains and Stone country of Kakadu and Arnhem Land.
• Set up camp in the heart of Kakadu, tonight campfire cooking and sleeping under the stars. (LD) Managed Camping Area

• After an early breakfast, we head off towards Maguk (Barramundi Gorge). We walk into the Gorge following Barramundi Creek, through majestic paperbark trees. As we cross the creek, heading towards the waterfall, keep an eye out for the many different species of fish, (Barramundi, Long Tom, Black Bream and Archer Fish, to name a few). At the end of the walk, you can cool off in the plunge pool below the falls.
• Next, we head to the southern end of Kakadu to Gunlom Waterfall, made famous in the movie Crocodile Dundee.
  After lunch, in the shady picnic area, it’s just a short walk down to pandanus lined plunge pool, where you can relax and have a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear water at the base of the Gunlom Escarpment.
  After Kakadu, we make our way south to Katherine and Nitmiluk National Park.
• This evening, we set up camp in our private camp down near the Katherine Gorge. (BLD) Private Camping Area

• After breakfast and packing up camp, you board the Nit Nit Dreaming Two Gorge Cruise.
  This scenic boat journey takes you through the first two and longest gorges of Nitmiluk. On this cruise, your guide will share their knowledge about plants, animals, Dreamtime stories and culture of the area, all while travelling between the towering sandstone cliffs etched out from the Arnhem land plateau over almost 2 billion years ago by the now Katherine River.
• After lunch, we head towards Leliyn,(Edith Falls). This beautiful waterfall is also in Nitmiluk National Park. Once there, you can sit back and take in the natural beauty of the area, go for a refreshing swim in the plunge pool.
• Tonight, we set up camp at Mt Bundy Station. (BLD) Managed Camping Area

• Our last day will be travelling through and absorbing the beauty of Litchfield National Park. Our first stop for the day will be to Wangi Falls for a morning swim; this is the largest of the swimming holes we will visit for the day.
• Next, we back up on top of the Table Top Range to find a shady spot for a bite to eat. After lunch, we drive over to view Florence Falls from the decking on top of the escarpment, great place for a photo looking down to the waterfall and pool below.
• Our last swim for the day is at Buley Rockhole, at these cascading pools you can move from pool to pool or pick one and relax there.
• The last stop for the day is a visit to see the world-famous Magnetic Termite Mounds. After exploring Litchfield, it’s only a short drive back to Darwin. (BL)
